A RESPECTFUL, EFFECTIVE AND AFFORDABLE SERVICE "Why People Need A Counsellor" There are times for most of us when we lose perspective on the problems with which we are contending - coping with a marriage partner, child, teenager, family member, friend, fellow worker, boss - coping with difficult life choices - how or whether or not to continue in a relationship, facing a new stage of life, trying to overcome habitual and unhelpful behaviour. Coping with such challenges alone can become a frightening and debilitating experience. Often we begin to feel trapped, to feel that there are no choices open to us. Seeking out a counsellor - someone in the business of helping others and someone with specific training and experience to assist us with our particular problems - can be a rewarding and transformative experience. We can discover choices we didn't know we had, regain control over our lives and find a new perspective on life. We no longer need to feel trapped and alone. We have found a friend who is willing and able to help us find the right solution for us. You have more choices than you think you do. "What It Costs To See A Counsellor" Some health, life or employment insurance policies will cover part or all of your expenses to see a counsellor. For many of us, who do not have such coverage, bearing this cost ourselves is much like having to bear other necessary life costs - like food and clothing or repairing a vehicle. Seeing a counsellor involves approximately the same hourly cost as having your vehicle repaired or maintained at an auto shop. That is a deliberate attempt to put such a cost in perspective. Is your emotional, mental, spiritual health, is the health of your marriage or family worth as much to you as a properly running vehicle? If so, you can afford to spend some time with a counsellor. In fact, it may save you substantial financial outlay in the long run to invest some time and money in an effective counselling service as a way of maintaining control over and finding solutions for some difficult aspects of your life before they begin to take a larger toll. A no-cost initial consultation session to assess your needs and to consider a counselling process is available to you. Please feel free to call and make an appointment. You can afford to see a counsellor. THE TYPES OF COUNSELLING WE PROVIDE Marriage and Family Counselling: Each of us belongs to some human system. Much of our life history is unconsciously determined by those relationships. We need to discover those hidden tapes which block personal growth so that we can make informed decisions. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Cognitive is a fancy word for 'thinking' and cognitive therapy is based on the simple idea that our thoughts affect our feelings and emotions. When our thoughts are in line with reality our emotions and behaviour tend to follow suit. If our thoughts are distorted, e.g. unrealistic or excessively negative, our emotions and behaviour will become a problem. Cognitive therapy makes use of a variety of techniques to assist people in aligning their thoughts with reality and is one of the most effective therapies in the treatment of mood disorders such as chronic depression, anxiety, panic attacks and excessive anger. Personality Type Counselling: Each of us is a unique creation in the universe. Understanding our individual strengths, instincts, and behavioural tendencies can provide us with insight into our own behaviour and respect for the uniqueness of others. Dream Therapy: Dreams are the most natural and powerful way to understand the healing power of our unconscious. They are a "forgotten language" that virtually anyone can learn. Spiritual Direction: All of us are on a spiritual journey to become the most human that we can be. The spiritual director acts as an experienced guide for that common human experience. Therapeutic Metaphor: Good stories have a kind of hypnotic power. They invite us on an inner adventure where love seeks and finds every heart. Anger and Polarity Management: We must all learn to befriend our anger if we are to avoid its destructive power. Equally important is the ability to distinguish between a problem to be solved and a 'polarity' to be managed. Neuro-Linguistic Programming: NLP is a revolutionary approach to human communication and development. It has helped millions of people overcome fears, increase confidence, enrich relationships, and achieve greater success. As a Certified Pastoral Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and member of NLP Canada Training and Consulting Inc. in affiliation with Grinder, DeLozier & Associates, Barry is able to share with others a set of immensely precise and elegant tools to enhance rapport, encourage personal excellence and transform virtually any kind of human behaviour.
